Washington Stage Theatre is great for special events,
anniversaries, birthday parties and celebrations.
It's party time at the theater!
Call Merle Miller at 219-326-5184 for further details.

MERLE MILLER IS A SCRIPT WRITER, DIRECTOR, ACTOR, AND PRODUCER OF UNIQUE
FAMILY-ORIENTED PLAYS AND PERFORMANCES FEATURED AT WASHINGTON STAGE
THEATRE IN LA PORTE. IT'S GREAT ENTERTAINMENT AT AFFORDABLE PRICES...

THE THEATRE (IT IS THE FORMER WASHINGTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN LA PORTE) WAS
RENOVATED INTO A UNIQUE HOME WITH ATTACHED THEATER. THE ORIGINAL RED BRICK
STRUCTURE WAS CONSTRUCTED IN 1923.

MERLE, WHO IS A RETIRED MECHANICAL ENGINEER, PAINSTAKINGLY RENOVATED THE
13,312 SQUARE-FOOT OLD SCHOOL INTO A COMFY HOME WITH ATTACHED
AUDITORIUM/THEATER.

THE COMMUNITY THEATER WAS FOUNDED BY MERLE AND HIS WIFE, SUZANNE. THE
COUPLE HAS BEEN TRAVELING ACROSS THE UNITED STATES FOR YEARS AND IN RUSSIA
AS WELL WITH HIS DR. QUACKENBUSH'S TRAVELING MEDICINE SHOW.

HE HAS IMPERSONATED JOHNNY APPLE SEED, BENJAMIN FRANKLIN AND BENJAMIN
HARRISON. PERHAPS HIS MOST FAMOUS ROLE OF ALL IS HIS YEARLY PORTRAYAL OF OLE
SAINT NICK (SUZANNE PORTRAYS MRS. SANTA CLAUS).

THEIR MILLER'S DREAM HAS ALWAYS BEEN TO OPEN A COMMUNITY THEATRE WHERE
YOUNG ACTORS (OR VINTAGE ACTORS) WOULD HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE
THE THRILL OF APPEARING ON STAGE.

***********************************************************

After remodeling the old school building into a home and auditorio-gymna-cafe-torium ( as the
Millers refer to it ) and a working theater for experimental performances, Merle and Suzanne
Miller are relaxing in the glow of producing plays never performed on a stage before.

Retirement, for some, may mean sandy beaches and cruises, but not for this energetic pair that
have operated airports, and flown some pretty weird contraptions throughout their 50-years of
togetherness.

"We love to give new people the chance to see their written work come to life on stage, and to
give neophyte actors and actresses a chance to perform for their friends. People with
stage-fright have been coaxed up on the stage to say a scripted line or two," Merle says.

"And now, for
your song," says Merle, as the curtain is pushed back one more step...

"I never thought I could ever do anything like this," exclaimed one newbie performer, who is now
performing in yet
another show.

Audiences are truly amazed  by the professional level of entertainment performed at the theater
with consistency.

Live entertainment for $5, what a concept!
It doesn't even pay the utility bills!

Audiences keep pouring through the doors.

"Where did you find these people, these actors, they are just so good? They are funny,
entertaining, and obviously enjoying what they are doing." These are the kind of comments that
we hear from audiences who enjoy attending our performances.

Everybody wins at Washington Stage Theatre. We have had actors perform from Gary,
Hammond, Lowell, Elkhart, Portage, Hamlet, Kingsford Heights, Mishawaka, Valparaiso, Rolling
Prairie, South Bend, New Carlisle, Mill Creek, Westville, Michigan City, La Porte, and even from
Michigan, just to perform on our stage.

See you at the theater soon...
